Moonlight Becomes Us

How many folks really think about the moon?  Probably, in a normal day, not all that many.  When people start doing goofy things behind the wheel, I think that perhaps it's a full moon, and that's what's causing right hand turns from left lanes, or red light running.  But, those of us who live in Phoenix pretty much accept erratic driving as normal!

So when the Cabaret Girls (and I use the term loosely) decided to do a musical segment with songs about the moon, it surprised us as we began to realize how very many songs use the moon theme.  There must be hundreds...maybe thousands.  From Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer to Van Morrison and Pink Floyd, the moon has inspired sensational melodies as well as both solemn and whimsical lyrics.  Why there's a moon song opportunity for any season, occasion, function or mood.  Or as they say on the late night commercials:  "Wait, there's more."

Blue moons, and bad moons, silvery, high, and dancing moons; why, the list is endless.  As  teenagers we loved the romantic notion of moonlight.  But, now, as Baby Boomers,  we look at moonlight in a whole new way.  Moonlight becomes us.
